Vivier-Merle tunnel

The Vivier-Merle tunnel, built in 1975, is located under the Boulevard of the same name, between the train station and the shopping centre. It allows to reach the Brotteaux district to the North, and the East of Part-Dieu’s district and Villeurbanne via rue de Bonnel.

The project plans infrastructure works of this tunnel with several objectives:

  • Extend the tunnel from 118m to the South in order to free up space on the Boulevard for pedestrians and public transport on the place Béraudier
  • Redesign the tunnel exit to the North to enlarge the sidewalk at the foot of the Swiss Life Tower to the Lafayette course
  • Create an access road to the future parking lot under the place Béraudier: taxis, minute and long-term car parks, deposit passengers
  • To set the tunnel to technical and safety standards (including the creation of a technical room and a new emergency exit)

After 2020, the Boulevard Vivier-Merle on the surface will be rearranged between Rue Paul Bert and the course Lafayette.
